An Introduction

Hello, my name is Daniel, and welcome to my first blog.

Me - Daniel Walpole
Me - Daniel Walpole

I have been thinking about creating a blog for a little while now.

This is for two reasons.

The first reason is to put across my thoughts and feelings regarding topics related to my job as a trainer and business owner. I have reached the stage where I feel I have gained so much over all the years of doing this job that I finally feel like I have earned my stripes, completed my apprenticeship, and all the other clichéd sayings to start sharing my opinion in this area.

The second reason is to attract as many people as possible to my business so it can grow.

And that’s the truth. I want to be as upfront and honest with people as possible with the blogs that will be released.  Whether they will be any good or not will be debatable. Just unfiltered, mistake-ridden paragraphs and opinions of what I have seen, experienced, and witnessed doing this job of mine.

I’ve never done any sort of blog before, and the idea of self-promotion, creating content, and just generally being ‘public’ does scare me slightly. But I thought it’s about time to get out of my comfort zone and try something different.

After all, I say this to my two children all the time, so practice what you preach, I guess.

Me

So, sounding like an intro to an AA meeting, here we go.

My name is Daniel, I’m 41 years old and I have been a trainer and training manager of various descriptions and content for over 15 years.

My list of roles that I have held includes Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Commercial Trainer, Training Manager, Technical Product Trainer, and Training Business Owner—which is what I currently do.

To say I have had my fair share of working in many different industries and environments would be an understatement.  From electric vehicle manufacturing to a charitable organisation, health clubs and leisure centres to a video conferencing company, my experience in all of these sectors has helped shape me as a person and the way I deliver training to staff and the general public.

What do I do? I train.

That is it in a nutshell. I freelance for several organisations and training providers in the health and safety and training sectors as well as providing training through my own business. From first aid to forklifts, pallet trucks to manual handling, I go to customers sites and deliver this type of training no matter what the weather is, no matter what time of year and despite the attitudes and prejudices I am sometimes exposed to. My Business After being made redundant after just 4 months employment in a new role, I officially declared myself as self-employed in January 2020. And, thanks to the Coronavirus, officially one of the worst times in human history to declare myself as self-employed. But what doesn’t kill you (partly because I stuck to the rules like a good boy) makes you stronger.  Despite the seemingly endless days of staying in and home schooling, I somehow managed to keep my head above the water and kept kicking. Bit by bit I started to gain more and more experience and contacts within the training industry. To cut a very long story short, and I am sure to bore you more in future blogs, I am now a stable, consistent training provider for customers throughout the UK. From now on At the start of every month, I will be posting a blog regarding a particular topic or observation that I have experienced or witnessed in the training industry.  It will be interesting to see what response I received from you, the reader, and to what degree people agree or disagree to what I have to say. Ok, so that’s the first blog done.  Let’s see where this takes me….
